Each year, ALPS brings together an outstanding international community of researchers, PhD students, and AI experts for an intensive week of scientific exchange, learning, and collaboration.
The 2026 edition featured leading figures in the field of AI and NLP, including:

  • Roger Moore (The University of Sheffield), who opened the school with a thought-provoking lecture on the fundamental limits of human–machine interaction and conversational AI.
  • Timothée Lacroix (Co-founder & CTO, Mistral AI), who shared insights into the development of large-scale language models and the challenges of building a strong European AI ecosystem.
  • Isabelle Augenstein (University of Copenhagen), who explored the interplay between parametric and contextual knowledge in large language models and the implications for trustworthy AI.
  • François Yvon (CNRS, ISIR), who provided a deep dive into constrained text generation and decoding strategies in modern language models.
  • Julia Kreutzer (Cohere), who presented a compelling vision for multilingual-first AI systems designed to better reflect linguistic diversity and improve inclusivity.

PhD students had the opportunity to present their ongoing research, discuss ideas with international experts, and receive valuable feedback in a highly collaborative environment.

By supporting ALPS 2026, the MIAI Cluster IA actively contributes to:

  • fostering connections between academic research and industry,
  • supporting the next generation of AI researchers,
  • strengthening a world-class scientific ecosystem at both the European and international levels.

We look forward to seeing ALPS 2027.
