DESCRIPTION
Ambition
To establish a lasting international strategic partnership between the University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA) (France), the National Institute of Telecommunications (Inatel) (Brazil), and VinUniversity (Vietnam), with the aim of developing and promoting international, interdisciplinary, and translational education, research, and innovation activities in the field of AI. The SL2i “Smart Life Smart Living Intercontinental: AI by and for People” chair is therefore intended to become a mutually beneficial intercontinental consortium that brings together researchers, university faculty members, engineers, technicians, PhD students, and postdocs from UGA, Inatel, and VinUniversity working on AI uses and applications.
Implementation
The SL2i’s work is structured around three cross-cutting areas of research that are increasingly relevant and of great importance to our communities, applied to three AI application domains that serve as demonstrators and proofs of concept for the integrated, multidisciplinary, and translational approach. A dual-track approach is envisioned. The implementation of these six work packages is intended to proceed in a complementary and synergistic manner.
Cross-cutting work packages
WP1. AI, Humans, and Society
WP2. Data collection, quality, privacy, and security to convert data into databases
WP3. Frugal AI
Vertical Work Packages
WP4. AI for People (Use Case 1: Smart Healthcare - Use Case 2: Smart Sport)
WP5. AI for Society (Use Case 1: Smart Education - Use Case 2: Smart City)
WP6. AI for Enterprises (Use Case 1: Smart Agriculture - Use Case 2: Smart Industry)
Members
Consortium
We have established a special task force. SL2i is a multidisciplinary and multinational team composed of both Senior Career Researchers (SCRs) and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from the three academic partners.
About Grenoble's academic partners
SL2i@UGA consists of 17 permanent members from 7 UGA research units (AGEIS, CROMA, Gipsa-lab, G-Scop, LIG, Pacte, TIMC) representing 4 research departments (Chemistry, Biology, Health (CBS) — Mathematics, Information, and Communication Sciences (MSTIC) — Physics, Engineering, and Materials Science (PEM) and Social Sciences (PSS)), one associate institute (CEA-Leti — Electronics and Information Technology Laboratory), and Grenoble Alpes University Hospital.
About the two international academic partners from Vietnam and Brazil
VinUniversity ( Vietnam) is a private, nonprofit university and a subsidiary of Vingroup, a Vietnamese corporation that accounts for more than 2% (~6 billion USD) of the country’s gross domestic product. SL2i@VinUni consists of four research centers (VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC), the International Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (BK.AI), VinUniversity Medical Simulation Center (VMSC), and VinUni Center for Biomedical 3D Printing) and their private partners, including a team of five permanent staff members (three senior researchers and two early-career researchers).
The Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicações (Inatel) (Brazil) is a private, nonprofit college operated by the subsidiary FINATEL, headquartered in Brazil. It is a leading institution that works directly with the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, among other ministries, to develop projects related to the implementation of digital TV, 5G, and Smart Cities in the country. SL2i@Inatel consists of four research centers (eHealth Innovation Center, Cybersecurity & IoT Lab, Hospital Lab, and IoT Research Group Lab) and their partners, including a team of five permanent staff members (three SCRs and two ECRs).
