Privacy Policy

The University of Grenoble Alpes, headquartered at 621 Avenue Centrale, 38400 Saint-Martin-d’Hères, in its capacity as data controller, is committed to ensuring that the processing of personal data carried out on the websites and intranet sites it hosts complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the French “Data Protection Act.”

When you use the University of Grenoble Alpes’ websites and intranet, you may provide us with information, some of which may identify you:

Cookies

We use various cookies to track website traffic and integrate services designed to improve the site’s interactivity.

Essential cookies: These cookies are essential for the proper functioning of the site: Tarte au Citron allows us to remember your consent preferences, which are retained for 6 months.
Audience measurement cookies: We use the Matomo audience measurement tool, a French tool that collects and analyzes data related to your visit to our site, with the goal of continuously improving the information we provide. The Matomo tool allows the collected data to be hosted locally on a university server. Matomo does not transmit personal data to third parties. Your connection data: When you browse the University of Grenoble Alpes’ websites and intranet, we collect personal information about you, such as the date and time of your connection and/or browsing activity, your browser type, your browser language, and your IP address (retained for 36 months).

• _pk_id: stores your unique visit ID (if Matomo audience tracking is enabled); this data is retained for 13 months.
• _pk_ses: Enables the temporary storage of your visit data (if the Matomo audience tracking feature is enabled), which is retained for 30 minutes.

You can choose to prevent Matomo from setting cookies before using this site. You can also partially or completely disable the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser.  

• Third-party cookies: These are cookies used by third parties, such as social media sites and audio-video platforms. You can opt out of these cookies when you visit our websites.

The following third-party services are used on our websites: Facebook, Facebook (posting), LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Acast, Ausha, and SoundCloud.

2. How do we use the data we collect?

We use the data we collect to:

• To respond to your requests, based on the legal ground of legitimate interest.
• To retain your login information in order to comply with a legal obligation.
• To analyze your browsing activity on our websites using Matomo, based on the legal basis of consent.
• To provide you with access to social media, based on the legal basis of consent.

3. Who are the recipients of the data we collect?

The recipients of your data are the communications and IT departments, as well as authorized personnel at the University of Grenoble Alpes.  
Our subcontractor, Lemon Tart, has access to data regarding the acceptance and rejection of cookies on our websites.
In accordance with applicable regulations, data may be disclosed to the relevant authorities upon request as part of an investigation aimed at identifying the perpetrators of crimes committed on the Internet.
Your data may be collected by third parties (social media sites and video platforms) for their own purposes, in accordance with their privacy policies. The University of Grenoble Alpes has no control over these third-party cookies.

4. How long do we retain your data?

Your data will be retained for as long as necessary for the purposes set forth in this policy, in accordance with applicable law:

• The data used to respond to your requests via forms is retained for as long as necessary to process your request, and for a maximum of one year.
• Connection and browsing data are retained for 36 months, as required by law.
• The retention periods for Matomo cookies are specified in the section above titled “Audience Measurement Cookies.”

5. How is your data protected?

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to prevent any unauthorized access to your data, as well as its alteration, disclosure, loss, or destruction. To this end, the University of Grenoble Alpes websites use a secure “SSL” connection, which encrypts and protects data during transmission over the Internet. Access to and processing of your personal data are restricted exclusively to authorized individuals.

6. What are your rights regarding your data?

In accordance with applicable laws and regulations regarding the protection of personal data, you have a number of rights regarding your data, depending on the legal basis for the processing to which they relate, namely:
