Webinar - Generative AI and Higher Education: Opportunities, Risks, and AI Literacy for Teachers and Students
On November 29, 2024
Event in French
Generative artificial intelligence is transforming teaching practices in higher education, but it also raises ethical and practical questions. Our three speakers will present different perspectives on its benefits and potential pitfalls, both for instructors and students.
Part 1. The Light and Dark Sides of Generative AI in Higher Education: Benefits and Pitfalls for Teachers and Students
This presentation explores the potential of generative AI in higher education, highlighting its advantages (personalized learning, creation of innovative resources, etc.) while also addressing possible pitfalls (plagiarism, dependency, and potential ethical risks).
Part 2. Towards Generative AI Literacy for Teachers and Students
Educators express a strong need for training and information on generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and its implications in academia. To address this need, the DAPI (Department for Pedagogical Support and Innovation, the teacher training service at UGA) offers an awareness workshop aimed at developing AI literacy. The workshop introduces the fundamental principles of how AI works, explores related social issues, and examines pedagogical approaches to adopt. We will present the main points of this workshop, raising questions about bias, ethics, data protection, and the integration of humans in the pedagogical use of GenAI at the university.
